Glorious Day! Fun Friends!
Hi Cyber-pack!
I got to meet Mazie! I got to meet Mazie! And Owen too.
When I came out the door with my Alison for my walk today, I went across the street to say "Mfff" to Tessa, who was looking out her front window. Then I turned around and a really cute Goldador (Golden Retriever-Yellow Lab cross) was walking down our block. When she got in front of Mazie and Owen's house, I barked a nice short high-pitched "come on over and play!" to her. Then Alison held my mouth shut and said, "no bark", but familiar corgi barks started coming from across the street...from the front porch, not the back yard! And then Tessa started to bark from inside her house! So we were all four of us barking, "Let's all play, and you, Goldador, too!" But, no play group. Goldie's walker was talking on her cell phone and just eased on down the road.
Then I realized, "Hey, Merlin, Mazie was joining in with you barking, and Owen too." ("Owen Too, the Count," for all you Cubs and Sox fans.) "And they are on their porch!" I think Alison read my mind, 'cause we crossed back to our side of the street, and, Mazie and Owen came off the porch, on leashes, with their beta female, who I will call "Jane Doe".
Whoaaa....I only ever saw their heads before, coming through the under-the-back-fence hole that we all dug. Their heads are only a little smaller than mine. And their ears might even be bigger than mine, although my ears are a good size, and I can move them in hundreds of positions, and I've only seen the corgis' ears pointed straight up to the sky. (I can even bend the top of either or both of my ears over like a terrier. My humans think it is especially cute when I do one terrier ear and one cattle dog ear.)
I wanted to ask Mazie and Owen, "Hey, what ever happened to your legs, guys? Your legs are only about three inches long!!" But I didn't. I have nice long German Shorthair Pointer legs, even though my body is smaller-than-Pointer.
I slowly approached lovely Mazie first, nose to nose, and Owen let out a small growl, which seemed to surprise Jane Doe, who said Owen was usually "laid back." (The humans say such odd things. Maybe that means Owen "plays dead" a lot.) So I said something back, and Owen dropped to the ground, and he sent me a message: "OK Merlin, you can be the boss. You are very tall, and I've seen from our back-yard-under-the-fence-hole that you can run really really fast!"
Then Mazie said, "Hey, I, Mazie, am a B____, and that makes ME the top canine around here, right?" "Mmmmmm...rrrrr..NO," I said, "but I think you're a real spitfire, with an incredible set of ears, and you are a first class digger. And I've seen how you really move on those little short legs. So I want to invite you to play." I made my very best play-bow, being careful to demonstrate how low I could bow with my long Pointer legs. And she lowered her tail wag and bowed back!
The humans barked to each other too. (They really have some strange sounds for barks. Many of them sound like, "Ha, ha, ha.") Something about playing together this summer. (Yessssss!) And then Mazie and Owen went inside, and I went for a glorious walk and had many wonderful sniffs because the ground was damp, but it was not freezing cold...just perfect for a happy mutt with a fur coat and good friends... Hey, those Goldador smells were really interesting down the rest of my block!
Love to you all,
Merlin

Heyy, my photos are in reverse order! Photos Fun.
I'm just a dog... I didn't know my photos were going to be posted in reverse order! But maybe you figured that out already. Come to think of it, you will probably read this first, and then scroll down and see my photos next. OK, here's a hint: read the captions for the next 4 photos from the bottom one first, then up (to the last one, where my tail is at half-donut)!
BTW, I LOVE to get my picture taken. My girls pay lots of attention to me, pet me, wave around my favorite toys (I have lots) and make really nice sounds, such as, "What a GOOD BUY!" (Don't understand why I'm a good buy; was I on sale? But, hey, they say that all the time!!)
To which I say, "Moooooooo."
Hope you enjoy my 'log!

I'm a 'log! And a talking (mooing) dog!
Hi everybody!
This is so fun, talking to the whole world on the computer! When I try to speak, I can make a lot of sounds, but mostly they sound like "bark" and "woof" and "ron". (That's my alpha guy; I have a special sound I make for him.) I also have very special sounds, like "mmmoooooooo" which means I'm really relaxed and happy, or, when I do it really loud, I want to make the pack laugh! I can also say "MMM Hmmm" when my girls are petting just the right spot. And sometimes I sing in different pitches when I'm trying to coax someone into giving me a snack. I try to vocalize the same tones my humans do, but they think it's funny when I do it.
My life wasn't always so fun. More about that at some later post.
My girlfriend Tessa lives across the street. But she just turned 54, and I've been "tutored", so we're really just platonic friends. I really like to visit her though. She's got a great back yard, and two great female human pack members. Can you believe her Human Mom Nancy is 565 years old???? She sure doesn't seem it. She goes on really great walks with Tessa, and sometimes Alison (my alpha female) and I go with them. I don't know exactly how old Alison is, but it sure is a whole lot less than 565 years!
I have my eye on a cute little corgi puppy named Mazie, who lives next door with her brother Owen and some humans that I used to bark at. Mazie and Owen have tails; I heard that there's another kind of corgi with no tail. Tails are really important to me. Mine is most of the time in a donut shape coming up over my back. In the Winter I sometimes wrap it around my nose if it's too cool indoors. My pack used to have a schipperke named Spock, but he went to the Rainbow Bridge. I still can smell his scent sometimes, though, and I think he's giving me hints about my pack members and how to get them to do what I want! I heard that Spock had no tail. What? I would really miss my tail if I didn't have it!
It used to be I could only touch noses with Mazie and Owen under the fence, because they hadn't had all their shots yet. But whenever I was in the yard, I'd hear Mazie's cute little bark calling me over to rub noses. I remember the first time her human alpha male held her up over the fence for Alison and Alexa to see, and, Oh, my heart be still! What a magnificent set of ears she has!
We've spent all Fall and Winter, dig, dig digging under the fence. For a while Mazie and Owen could stick their whole heads under the fence, so we would have two corgi heads in our yard, with the corgi bodies next door (still attached to the heads, sillies!) Then their humans started putting rocks in our digging holes. Well, we will just have to dig some more. The corgis are really great diggers!
Oh, in the back yard that backs up to my back yard, there are two funny looking little brown dogs with short legs and floppy ears, and silly thin tails. My folks call them "wiener dogs" or "doxies". Abilgail the doxy barks A LOT. In fact, let any dog in the neighborhood bark once, or let a possum or raccoon show up on the fence, and Abilgail is unstoppable! Oliver lets Abilgail take care of all the watchdog work. Oliver is pretty laid back.
I'll tell you more about my neighborhood later. I'm really excited to be a log!
Love to you all, Merlin, also known as Merlino, or Moo, and (sometimes) Charlie
